Bad Phantom Power Adapter or Microphone?
I recently purchased an ADX-20i miniature instrument microphone, for my saxophone, from an “independent dealer” in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The microphone also came with an Audix ADX-90, 9-52V phantom power adapter and it so happens that the system is not working. I have already tried it on several different phantom-powered mixers with the same end result: no sound at all. I have read that, in fact, this microphone normally comes with an APS-910, 9-52V phantom power adapter. Could the difference in the power supply be the culprit, or should I send the microphone in for an inspection? I know that it might sound absurd that the power supply make such a crucial part of the microphone itself, but you never know. Thanks for your answers and comments!
I just read the spec sheet and now I am confused. The ADX-20i version will only work with wireless mics as it is out of the box. The ADX-20i-P version will work as a wired mic – I think that is what you need. Audix does (or did) make a ADX-90 microphone but why would they send you that?
All you need is the ADX-20i mic and the APS-910 power adapter. Make sure the phantom power is turned on on the mixer. If you still get no sound after that, the mic or power adapter may have a problem.
